Liquid Plumber is safe. Just read the directions. Many off the shelf products are safe. They don’t always work very well.

Has Liquid Plumber or Drano ever actually opened a clog? The reason I ask is every time I get a clog and a plunger doesn’t work, I try a drain opener, and every single time, over the last 3 decades, they’ve failed.
So my question is, has anyone ever actually had a clog opened by one of these products?

drano crystals work, don’t put them in the toilet! you have to let it set, then rinse after a while,,don’t sniff the drano

Do Drano and / or Liquid plumber damage pipes?I have heard mixed things about whether these products will damage pipes (e.g. based on types of pipes, age, etc). Can anyone provide info or suggest alternate products. We tried a product that pumped air into the pipe, but that didn’t work due to air escaping out of the overflow drain (this is a bathtub)

if you use them PROPERLY, you shouldn’t have a problem. If your drain pipes are made of any kind of metal and you let the cleaner sit in them to long, then yes they can damage them. With plastic drain lines this isn’t as much of an issue, most drain cleaners come in a plastic bottle. I personally don’t like Draino or Liquid Plummer, they are pretty weak. I like FlowEasy, Lowe’s sells it. Contains concentrated sulphuric acid, strong stuff.
Just remember, drain cleaners are a last resort, plunger first, then disassemble, after that it’s a toss up between a snake and drain cleaner. Snakes will poke through most clogs, but they don’t always remove them. Always follow the directions.

Do you think Drano or Liquid Plumber will get my pipe uncloged.?I live in a apartment and dont want to call them in on a holiday,so I was just going to try liquid drano first. When I run the water in my bathroom sick it backs up into the bathtub and the water is black.
The bathtub does drain but it takes forever.

most common tub drain blockage is hair. but for your safety do not enter the drain if you have used chemicals. ventilate your bathroom now with an exhaust fan and during any drain cleaning procedures.
there is methane (and undesirable odor) in the sewer system beyond the drain traps.
wearing rubber gloves and eye protection such as goggles or safety glasses: if there is a simple hair strainer cup, remove it by snapping it out or removing its holding screw. clean out its hair or blockage beneath it.
or, depending on its age and design, the bathtub may have a lever or handle which opens and closes the drain. unscrew the 2 screws of the drain lever overflow cover and go exploring. if you can pull out and remove and clean the linkage from the overflow: there may be a rod leading to a spring clogged with hair. once you remove the blockage you can sometimes improve poor drainage with repeated doses of boiling water in the tub drain and sink drain which will melt soap scum and bath oils (and fats in the kitchen drain). if the drainage is still slow, use a plumbing snake into the tub drain to open the pipe between the tub and the sewer pipe. once you have the drains running at 100 percent, buy new hair strainers for tub and sink at the dollar store or plumbing aisle of any hardware or department store.
if still needed: if the trap of the sink is plastic there are 2 large plastic nuts with which to easily remove it and clean it.
often the drain pipe of the sink and tub feeds into the sewer by the toilet. if the toilet is draining properly after a flush, we’ll presume the bathroom sewer itself is not blocked.

Try a plunger and if that doesn’t help then use liquid plumber.
use some steaming hot water..pour down the toliet ..yes liquid plumber is safe read the lable
cant go wrong with the good ol plunger™
its kinda hard to “harm the pipes”
theyre fxxkxing pipes..you know?
liquid plumber is ok but sometimes you need some elbow grease.
Get that new draino power launch thing some people i know said it works really great!
A plunger is properly used by pushing down slowly and “PULLING QUICKLY WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE”.
plunger
I believe you could liquid fire but be very careful it will eat through anything
First off did something foreign get flushed by accident?
check the toilet sometimes a snake will help push through.
Remove toilet take out side and dump and flush out with hose . If still not working try chemical although if you have septic system this could do more harm than good.
GET THE SNAKE OUT.
Jacob is right.. Get a toilet snake, if that doesn’t work, call the plumber…
nope there waste of money ,al lthey do is make the drain smell nice.
how can a liquid, open up a solid ,dont make sence eh, try a snake ,much better, faster , and you can re use the snake
Not me bro……
Use a plunger. Those drain acids WILL hurt metal pipes.
The only thing that has actually worked for me is a snake. Plungers are good for the toilet. Ultimately your neighborhood’s sewage system might just suck.
Not for me! I had to purchase a drain blaster from the local hardware store, you hook it up to the water hose, and it blasts the clog out. The Drano and such have never worked for me.
Nope!
Best results happen by keeping long hair from going down the drain in the first place. Running hot water on a regular basis to clear built-up soap scum from quick hand washes, or after brushing your teeth.
The first place hair gets caught at is where the stopper handle attachment connects to the stopper base. About 3 inches below the o-ring, right where the small round rod goes into the drain. It will be on the plunger stem on the back-underneath side of your sink. Loosen the cap and slide the rod off the plunger gizzmo, pull the stopper out and remove all the soap hairball stuff and clean all the slime off. Put it back together just opposite the way you just did and you’re good to flow.
If you do not have a snake…Try baking soda and vinegar. Do not premix. Pour the baking soda in first then pour in the vinegar. It will bubble and may go down. I have done this for small clogs.
Not that I have ever heard of…. if they did drain cleaners would be out of work.
Will – Plumber
I have had better luck with the least expensive drain cleaners. They smell like – horrible — but they have worked for me.
BTW ….. baking soda and vinegar have NEVER done a darn thing!
I am a hairy beast, and it cleans up the hair clogs in my shower every couple weeks like a charm. Don’t know about bigger clogs.
Nope. I have poured bottles of the stuff down my slow drains and nothing happened. I finally found a recipe for a drain cleaner that worked. I cleared my drain of standing water with my shop vac first so I don’t know how it works in standing water. 1 Cup baking soda, 1 Cup Salt, 1/4 cup cream of tarter. Mix in a jar. Pour 1/4 cup into drain and follow with 2 cups boiling water. Wait 5-10 minutes and rinse drain.
I have used liquid “Plumber” commercial, for 47 years on the job, since it was invented. It has never failed me in the easy cases, the ones where it didn’t there were objects like a cell phone plug, a toy from the kids, a small adding machine, things that won’t go through and have to be taken out, steak bones are a big thing for some reason. Who in the heck would toss a steak bone into a toilet but, it happens a lot.
Drano…Liquid plumber, etc, these are made for hair plugs in bath drains, there not made for magical uses that make life easy.
Liquid plumber foaming drain snake is the best thing since sliced bread. The only thing is the directions for use aren’t quite right. The best way to use it is to pour it into the tub or sink next to the drain and let it go down after it starts foaming. It works great.
Just yesterday, a customer used two cans of Drano crystals on his kitchen sink. Took one day, but it got it draining.
About 3 years ago, I cable snaked it through the vent and pulled mud out with the cable. A sign of a broken drain line.
Told him we’ll have to bust the floor up and repair/replace the line.
He’s been using the Drano since then.
He know’s I’m right, but the Drano as been buying him time.
I don’t advocate drain cleaners, but they can work in some instances.
